ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Don’t let the headline scare you. It’s not that Emelianenko.
The main event for Affliction’s debut Saturday, pitting former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko(27-1-0) against former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia(26-5-0), is set.
However, Aleksander Emelianenko was denied licensure by the California State Athletic Commission, thus forcing him out of his bout with Paul Buentello.
Promoter Roy Englebrecht echoed the statement of CSAC representative Bill Douglas at Friday’s weigh-ins, saying that Emelianenko “did not meet his licensing requirements.”
CSAC Executive Officer Armando Garcia told Sherdog.com that he has approved Gary Goodridge as a replacement for the Russian against Buentello. Englebrecht said Goodridge was already in California, licensed and expecting to fight in San Diego this weekend on a card that was cancelled.
Justin Levens missed the 187-pound catch-weight for his fight with Ray Lazama, but the CSAC approved the bout. Part of Levens’ purse will go to Lazama.
